At the beginning of the 1970s, the intention of the German railway was to make their appearance more pop and colourful. For this purpose, a pop livery corresponding to the time was introduced. All carriages were given a light grey base coat. The second class was painted with a blue window band, the first class was given an orange window band, the luggage vans a green one, dining cars a red one and sleeping cars a purple one. This colour scheme did not establish itself over the course of time. The DB received the generally known ocean blue-beige paint scheme.
